Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

Why Austin Homeowners Choose DuraFlex Chimney Cleaning

We provide independent DuraFlex repair in Austin, including chimney cleaning, inspection, and repair service across the city. If you have a DuraFlex liner in your fireplace or furnace flue, our technicians know exactly how it behaves after years of Central Texas heat, cedar smoke, and drought-then-rain settling cycles. We are not a DuraFlex dealer and we are not authorized by the manufacturer, but we work on these liners every week and we will show you camera footage of what is actually happening inside yours before we recommend anything. Call (361) 603-5116 to book a DuraFlex service visit in Austin.

Austin’s housing mix means we see DuraFlex liners in 1920s Hyde Park bungalows, 1960s Allandale ranches, and brand-new Mueller builds. The liner profiles are the same across those homes, but how they age is not. A DuraFlex Pro in a converted open-hearth fireplace in Travis Heights faces very different stress than a DuraFlex AL in a high-efficiency gas furnace in a South Austin new build. We service both, and we explain the difference in plain language.

Why Trust Hadley Chimney Austin for Your DuraFlex Chimney Cleaning?

Cory Mitchell, owner of Hadley Chimney Austin, learned the trade through the HVAC and building systems program at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College, and he has carried a camera scope into more Austin flues than he can count. Our crews have opened up and serviced hundreds of DuraFlex systems across Austin, from single-story 1960s ranches in Allandale to modern builds in Mueller. We understand how Austin’s limestone-heavy chimney construction, attic heat, and rapid weather swings interact with DuraFlex’s specific liner profiles.

When we clean a DuraFlex liner, we are not just running a brush through it. We check the corrugation depth on Pro models, the smooth-wall condition on SW liners, the connector kinks on AL runs, and the top plate seal on every install. Cory is known for showing up with a camera scope, texting the homeowner a clear photo of exactly what is going on inside the flue liner before he says another word, because he thinks you should see your own chimney before you decide anything. That approach is built into every DuraFlex service visit we do in Austin. “I’ll show you the photo first. Then we’ll talk.”

Founded in 2003, Hadley Chimney Sweep has over two decades of chimney experience behind every job. Every DuraFlex repair we make carries a written guarantee and a free second visit if the repair fails, backed by our 365-Day Done Right Promise. We are part of the Relay Home Co. family and operate under The Relay Visibility Guarantee, which means live arrival tracking, before-and-after photo documentation, and a written price before any work begins. No exceptions for DuraFlex jobs, or any other job.

Common DuraFlex Chimney Cleaning Problems We Fix in Austin

DuraFlex liners are well-built, but Austin has specific conditions that create specific failure patterns. Here is what we routinely find and fix.

  • Creosote glaze on DuraFlex SW smooth-wall liners. This is the most common call we get from Austin homeowners burning wood. Smooth-wall liners move smoke faster, which sounds great, but when people burn unseasoned post-oak, the faster draft actually cools the smoke quicker against the smooth surface, hardening creosote into a shiny glaze. It happens most after our wet winters when firewood has been sitting in humid air. Rotary equipment is the fix, not standard rods.
  • Soot trapping in DuraFlex Pro corrugations at lower offsets. DuraFlex Pro is a single-wall 316L flexible liner with visible corrugations. Those corrugations catch soot at every bend, especially in fireplaces that were converted from open-hearth to inserts without the tee being resized. The liner sags or angles at the transition, and soot builds into a shelf. We clean these with carbide-chain rotary whips, not just a brush on rods.
  • Kinked DuraFlex AL connectors at the appliance. Aluminum liners are for gas appliances, and they are thin by design. Austin’s clay-tile flues settle during drought-then-rain cycles, and that settling puts pressure on the AL connector where it meets the furnace or water heater. The connector kinks, the exhaust flow drops, and sometimes the unit starts short-cycling. We inspect the entire run with a camera and replace only what is actually deformed.
  • Loose top plates on multi-story DuraFlex Pro installs. Thermal cycling in Austin, where a 40-degree morning can turn into an 85-degree afternoon in February, expands and contracts the metal top plate repeatedly. On hillside homes in Westlake and Rollingwood, wind loads make it worse. A loose top plate lets rain into the crown chase, which then drips down onto the liner and accelerates corrosion. We reseal and torque these regularly.
  • Corrosion at the liner base in humid summers. Austin’s hot, humid summers mean a lot of moisture sits inside chimneys that are not used for months. For DuraFlex Pro and SW liners, that moisture collects where the liner meets the firebox or the tee, and the 316L stainless can start to show pitting if the homeowner never runs the fireplace. We catch this on camera during Level 2 inspections and tell you plainly if the liner is safe to keep or needs replacing.

DuraFlex Parts & Our Repair-vs-Replace Approach

We source DuraFlex OEM liner sections, connectors, and top plates through our local supply house. That means the parts we install match the original system, not a generic substitute that happens to fit. When OEM caps or terminations are discontinued, we use only certified stainless or aluminum aftermarket terminations, never whatever is cheapest on the truck. Your liner was built to a specific profile, and the parts we install should match it.

We do not upsell replacements. If your DuraFlex liner is corroded, cracked, or deformed to the point where cleaning it would be unsafe or pointless, we will tell you in plain words and show you the camera footage that proves it. If it can be cleaned and put back into safe service, we do that and document it. The repair-vs-replace decision is made with you looking at the same images we are looking at. No guesswork, no pressure. Call (361) 603-5116 if you want a straight answer about your liner’s condition.

Our DuraFlex Service Process – Step by Step

  1. 1
Diagnosis. We run a camera scope through the full DuraFlex liner, from the crown to the appliance connector. We check corrugation depth on Pro, smooth-wall condition on SW, and connector integrity on AL. You get the photos before we recommend anything.
  2. 2
The written price. Before any work starts, you get a written quote. It covers everything: the cleaning method, the parts if any are needed, the time, and the warranty. No verbal number that changes later.
  3. 3
Repair or cleaning. For creosote glaze, we use rotary equipment with carbide chains or a chemical glaze remover, depending on the liner type and buildup. For parts replacement, we use OEM DuraFlex wherever possible and certified aftermarket only when OEM is gone.
  4. 4
Post-service camera scan. After the work, we run the camera again. You see the before and after. If we replaced a section, you see the new liner in place and the connection points.
  5. 5
Warranty and documentation. Every repair carries a 365-Day Done Right Promise with a written guarantee and a free second visit if it fails. Your invoice is digital, your photos are emailed, and the work is logged.

DuraFlex Products We Service & Install in Austin

We work on the full DuraFlex product range that shows up in Austin homes. That includes DuraFlex Pro single-wall 316L flexible liners, DuraFlex SW smooth-wall flexible liners, DuraFlex 316Ti titanium-stabilized liners for high-efficiency gas appliances, and DuraFlex AL aluminum liners for gas furnaces and water heaters. We stock common OEM liner sections, connectors, and top plates locally so most DuraFlex repairs in Austin don’t wait on a parts shipment from out of state. For rarer series or discontinued cap models, we source through our supply chain and give you a real timeline up front.

We Also Service These Brands

Hadley Chimney Austin is not tied to one manufacturer. Alongside DuraFlex, we service and install HeatShield ceramic repair systems for firebox and smoke chamber restoration, and Gelco chimney caps and chase covers. We also work with Olympia Chimney, Famco, and Copperfield parts when the project calls for them. The right material for the job is the one that matches your system and Austin’s climate, not the one we happen to have the most of on the truck.
